2023年の昨シーズン、目覚ましい活躍で最強投手の証サイ・ヤング賞の投票結果で3位にランクインした、誰もが認めるメジャーを代表する先発投手の一人ダイヤモンドバックスのザック・ギャレン。
完全にブレイクした2022年のシーズンでは伸び上がる球威抜群のフォーシームを軸に、変化量の大きいカーブの制球力も上がるとシーズンを通して打者を圧倒。
最終的には防御率 リーグ4位の2.54をマークするとキャリアハイの12勝を挙げダイヤモンドバックスのエースへと上り詰めた。
ギャレンは幼少期から根っからの野球少年で放っておけば常にスポーツチャンネルで野球を見ていた子供だった。
父親が監督を務めるリトルリーグのチームには2学年飛び級で入団した。

防御率は3.47で投球回数もリーグ2位の210イニングを記録し、奪三振の数はリーグ3位の220奪三振とシーズンを通して見事な成績を残した。
