メジャーリーグという世界最高の野球の舞台で、日本人投手として歴代最高のピッチャーと言っても過言ではないダルビッシュ有が所属するサンディエゴ・パドレスには2024年の今シーズンからは新たな日本人投手、松井裕樹も加わった。
そしてそんなパドレスという球団には数々のスタープレイヤーが在籍しているが、今回はその中から強打の内野手ザンダー・ボガーツというプレイヤーを紹介させていただこう。
ボガーツは2013年のメジャーデビュー以降2022年まで長い間レッドソックスの中心人物として活躍し、2023年からパドレスと11年総額2億8000万ドル当時の日本円にして約382億円の大型契約でパドレスに加入したメジャー球界を代表する内野手の一人だ。
長年ショートストップ(遊撃手)としてフィールドに立っていたボガーツだが、今シーズンは昨年までセカンドやサード、ショートのポジションを守っていたキム・ハソンの守備能力が高く評価され、ボガーツがセカンドへコンバートしキムハソンがショートを守ると公表されている。
守備の面では今まで守ることのなかったセカンドというポジションで新たなシーズンを迎える形になるがぜひ2024年の今季は強打のセカンドベースマンとしてサンディエゴの多くのファンを魅了して頂きたい。
