メジャーリーグのアメリカンリーグ東地区に所属するボルチモア・オリオールズという球団は、近年までシーズン162ゲームのうち100ゲーム以上は負けてしまうといったメジャー30球団の中でも特に弱いチームとして球界では知られていた。
ただ、ここ数年では優秀なルーキープレイヤーの出現やチームの育成力が実った結果、今ではシーズン100ゲーム以上を勝つようなメジャー屈指の強豪チームへと見事な変貌を遂げた。
そしてそんな弱いのが当たり前のような成績が低迷していたチームを100勝するチームにまで導いた、まさにチームの大きな原動力となったプレイヤーが2022年の後半にメジャーデビューを果たしたガナー・ヘンダーソンというプレイヤーだった。
彼は22歳の若いプレイヤーながらメジャー最高レベルのパワー持つ右投げ左打ちの主にショートを守る内野手。
ヘンダーソンは2023年の昨シーズン、見事な活躍でシルバースラッガー賞の受賞をはじめアメリカンリーグの新人王にも輝いたが、2024年の今季は昨年以上の活躍を期待させるハイペースでホームランを量産しメジャー球界最高レベルの活躍で大きな注目を浴びている。
